About SupportSum
SupportSum helps separated, divorcing, and co-parenting families understand child support. Working out what child support might look like is stressful and confusing, and the rules are different in every state. We built SupportSum to make that first step clearer: free calculators and plain-language guides, built from each state's official child support guidelines.
What we do
For all 50 states and Washington, D.C., we provide a calculator that estimates child support using that state's official method, whether that is the Income Shares model, the Percentage of Income model, or the Melson Formula. Every state page explains how the calculation works, shows a worked example, and links to the official source we used.

Our approach
We are transparent about our method and we link to the official source on every state page. Our estimates are a starting point for understanding, not a substitute for legal advice.
- Every calculator links to the official state source it is based on
- Calculator inputs are processed in your browser — we never store or transmit your data
- We clearly state that results are estimates and recommend consulting an attorney

Who is behind SupportSum
